Austin, Specifically
Austin is the city where a founder’s mental-health story can become a deal-killing public story inside 48 hours, and Kyden Point is built for the people inside that risk surface when something personal starts to surface. Tesla moved its headquarters here in late 2021. Oracle moved out in 2024. Tech-Twitter watched both in real time. The wave of Bay Area founders, executives, and operators who relocated during the 2020-2022 boom are still here. The boom is not.
The Austin wealth class is spread out, not concentrated. Westlake Hills, Rollingwood, Tarrytown, Barton Creek, Davenport Ranch, Pemberton Heights. All west of downtown. All served by Eanes ISD or similar elite public districts. But none of it is stitched together like Park Cities or River Oaks. The visibility pattern is different here. In Austin, you don’t have to be seen in a parking lot. You have to manage what your LinkedIn, your founder podcast, your investor’s group chat, and your portfolio company’s HR Slack already say about you. Kyden Point’s Austin clients are usually managing two or three of those at once.
Eighteen unicorns are headquartered in Austin: Tricentis, Colossal Biosciences, SparkCognition, ICON, The Zebra, and others. Austin Ventures, Silverton Partners, ATX Venture Partners, and dozens of smaller funds write checks into them. 2025 set an all-time high for Austin venture funding. The exit-event family pattern tracks the same curve. The wealth becomes real on a Tuesday and the marriage that was forming during the build years becomes real on the same Tuesday. Kyden Point sees this pattern with some frequency.
A different version of the same pressure runs through the state Capitol. Lobbyists, agency heads, senior legislative staff, statewide officials, and their families. The political-press exposure surface is constant, and an in-network mental-health diagnosis on a public record can be opposition research inside one news cycle. Kyden Point sees this cohort too.
Then there are the tentpole weeks. SXSW in March. ACL in October. The F1 United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas the same month. During those weeks, the same founder, VC partner, or label executive who is private the rest of the year is suddenly hyper-visible. Crisis surfacing during a tentpole week is its own Austin pattern. The Half-Day Intensive and the Concierge engagement at Kyden Point are structured for exactly these moments.
Austin’s legal industry already operates inside a discretion framework. Jackson Walker, Vinson & Elkins, Baker Botts, and DLA Piper handle the tech transactions, the founder agreements, and the wealth-event paperwork. The clinical side has not had an equivalent at the same standard. Kyden Point is that equivalent. Outside the Austin in-circuit referral path. Run on secure platform so a clinical record never enters the same online-public attention economy a founder’s career already lives inside.
Who Calls From Austin
- The tech founder who relocated his family during the 2020-2022 boom and is now navigating an environment that no longer matches the arrival story.
- The VC managing partner whose portfolio company is in trouble while the household is in trouble at the same time.
- The unicorn CEO or early-employee whose wealth event arrived at the same time as a marriage strain that had been forming through the build years.
- The lobbyist, agency head, or senior legislative staffer whose political-press exposure cannot tolerate an in-network clinical paper trail.
- The Dell Medical, UT Austin, or Ascension Seton senior administrator carrying institutional and personal exposure.
- The spouse or adult child of any of the above, watching the rest of it from a closer distance than anyone outside the family realizes.
What Brings Austin Clients to This Practice
- Acute crisis around an exit event, a fund close, a portfolio implosion, or a Capitol session.
- Marriage strain that surfaced after the liquidity event or the relocation.
- Addiction surfacing under tech-Twitter, VC-LinkedIn, or podcast-circuit visibility.
- Family system stress involving an adult child, an aging parent, a sibling, a blended-family transition, or a generational wealth-transfer event.
- Combat or first-responder trauma carried quietly into founder, board, or Capitol roles.
- Stabilization before, during, or after a tentpole week: SXSW, ACL, F1, a fund-raising round, a press cycle, an IPO road show.

The Clinician
Mack Kyles, LPC, MSW. Over 15 years across clinical settings and crisis management. Trauma, addiction, family systems, marriage and family therapy. Combat veteran.
Most of the calls Kyden Point gets from Austin don’t fit one diagnostic box. The funding round is collapsing while the marriage is collapsing. The founder is taping a podcast appearance while quietly drinking before the call. The state agency head is preparing for testimony while the teenager is in crisis at home. Breadth across the full clinical range is what lets one clinician hold the whole tangled situation, instead of routing the client to four different ones.
Austin FAQ
Is this therapy or something else?
The foundation is clinical counseling. The operational model is executive counseling. Sessions are scheduled as needed with a defined scope, not weekly sessions indefinitely. Clients can keep Kyden Point as their advisor on call. Different shape than standard outpatient care. Many Austin clients describe it as the clinical counterpart to how their VC or their startup lawyer already operates for them: defined engagement, structured outcome, available on call after.
Why do clients choose a secure platform instead of an in-person therapist?
Three reasons. Visibility. Walking into an office in Westlake or Tarrytown means someone in your professional network might see you, and the Austin wealth class lives more online than it does on any single street. A LinkedIn check-in or a founder-circuit screenshot is the bigger exposure surface here than a parking lot. Schedule. Calendars at this level don’t accommodate driving across town for a fifty-minute slot. And the work itself. Most of what happens in this practice doesn’t require in-person presence. Sessions run from a home office before a fund-raising call, a hotel suite between SXSW panels, any space with a door that closes. Concierge engagement is in-person and is offered separately, at the client’s location.
Why no insurance?
Insurance requires a formal diagnosis. That diagnosis becomes a permanent part of your medical record, grants third-party access to your file, and constrains what can be addressed and how long it can take. For the people who come here, the diagnosis itself is the liability. In Austin that can mean funding-round terms, custody, Capitol or foundation board appointments, defense and tech-IP security clearances, partnership terms inside a fund, founder reputation across Tech-Twitter and VC-LinkedIn. The practice is built to keep that paper trail from ever starting. No insurance. No diagnosis filed. No clinical record that follows you anywhere.
